Wow.
                          So doge.
      Much soldier.
                                      Wow.

:iconshibeplz:

Okay, that would be more appropriate if the Bonnie Prince Charlie was a Shiba Inu, but I couldn't resist.

So, wow, this took a long time to write. Primarily because I had to look up the terminology and then hope I got everything mostly right (spoilers: pretty sure I didn't). Writing about military stuff is hard, guys. 'Cause, you know, I'm not military. It also took a while because I wanted to get the tone right. Or rather, more right than my previous attempts at third person omniscient, which have mostly come off as painfully impersonal. Here's to hoping I infused a little more personality into this piece, naughty language and all. And italics. So many italics.

Anyway, this didn't turn out the way I expected, mostly because there was no shooting and explosions and high-tech, post-apocalyptic tomfoolery. I had fun with it, anyway. Because puppies, guys. Puppies.

It's so long! Sorry not sorry. I will eventually secure permission to use other per-established characters in the universe, and I won't have to go making up random soldiers that I can use and abuse.

Gold star for you if you read the whole thing, by the way --> Star!

Which is what Mum wouldn’t even have to say, because anybody who was anybody would already knew.

This should be know.

And wouldn’t that be just the thing if she broke her ankle on concealed steel plate?

There should be an a before, 'concealed steel plate.'

A sharp kicked did for the flimsy door – and, boy, did that feel good.

I don't feel like this should be in the past tense.

I like this, it's an interesting combination of smartass and military jargon. I do feel as if you've really captured her nervous energy at being put in charge of a group of more experienced soldiers. Also, puppies! That is all.
